Acerca de Mari
Marielena is a designer, maker and researcher. She has actively engaged in research and development, both in academia and industry. Her educational journey includes a Master with Honors in Design for Manufacture from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London (UCL). She previously studied Architecture & Engineering in the National Technical University of Athens and in the Escola Tècnica superior d’arquitectura de Barcelona, UPC. These academic foundations have equipped her with a robust understanding of design principles, materials and digital fabrication tools, but also led her to a Lectureship position in Numerical Manufacturing in UCL. She also teaches part-time at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) as a design tutor in the Master of robotics and advanced construction (MRAC). By leveraging algorithmic pathways and robotic manufacturing her research involves the practical, procedural and economic drivers behind the materialization of building products. Finally, she has worked in two international practices in Amsterdam (SeARCH and Equipe) where I gained valuable knowledge on how leading Dutch architectural firms work with regard to BIM frameworks.

Tailoring to students' levels and needs. I offer flexible top-down teaching that involves technical exercises, progressing from basics to advanced parametric modeling. Top down teaching is followed by homework excercises. Alternatively, there is also the option for problem solving sessions, where a student brings a specific problem/project and we tackle it in class.
In terms of design for manufacturing we can assess the fabrication methods of the model and connect it to manufacturing code in a single file. For robotic fabrication I offer theory (minimum 45m) and simulation classes (time depends on the application). I cover ABB, KUKA, UR and various applications from 3D printing, milling, pick-and-place and more, ensuring practical, applicable knowledge.
Real-world applications, regular feedback, and a structured path set my tutoring apart. Ideal for diverse levels and degrees seeking practical modeling and/or fabrication skills.
